This reasearch project was conducted to study the effectiveness of the internet and publicization. Before the use of the internet the task of distribution, marketing, manufacturing and publicizing was only widely successful through a national or internation record company. With a huge influx of artists and revenue, all of these tactics were easily afforded while the local independant artist was left in the local scene. Wth the use of the internet, independant artists are able to publicize their music on a much more massive scale. The only characterstics that have maintained the separation of record companies and independant artist is the availability of mass marketing. Manufacturing very recently was an issue that has been overcome by independant artists with the distribution of infinite digital copies. This project simply addresses the power that internet users now possess to reach any public.
*Slides and video interviews are to be added to the current powerpoint.
Our project shows how the internet levels the playing field between independent artists and the most powerful, successful record companies. Now, any artists has the ability to publicize themselves on a large scale.
