In light of the revelations regarding the mass government surveillance through the NSA, people are unaware of potential security threats involved with computer usage through normal means of communication.
We planned to heand out flash drives, and use surveys to measure the expereince, usefullness, and impact of these programs on the individual and how it changes their perceptions of potential security flaws and provisions. This can be measured by how/if their habits change online, once access to the software has been given.
The final result was a comprehensive suite of programs that can effectively secure any home computer. Not all programs are usable on any computer, as adminsitrative rights are needed to override network protocols nessesary for VPN communication. However, this list of programs can be distributed easily and through encrypted means of communcation.
The results of our survey showed that the people most affected by our programs already contained a large ammount of information regarding the programs used, and as a result there is little information regarding how it may change people's opinions about communication. Perhaps, through advancing these programs toward a more user-friendly state, there could be an environment supporting a more likely shift in consciousness regarding the use of these programs.
