How do we represent ourselves on Facebook and is it accurate?

Our project focuses on the construction and perception of online identity. In today's world of technology almost everybody's life is exposed on the web. What we are interested in exploring is if the image we expose to the world is the one we are truly trying to put out there. And if there are indeed differences in perception of identity what aspects are most misinterpreted and why?

How did we do this?

We constructed a survey in which three real Facebook profiles would be evaluated by strangers. People would have to go and view the profiles, which we had asked the participants to make public and then answer questions about the people. The three profiled people: Lucas, Brenna and Kilee also had to fill out a similar survey evaluating what they thought their profiles said about them.

The data was then compared and analyzed.

What the data meant?

We split up the questions into evaluations of different aspects of identity. Personality, social life, work and leisure and privacy.
